All right, I admit it...the purpose of this blog is for purely selfish reasons...I want to present my parents life to the world, show the world what awesome people they are, and help them get a decent house to live in...
Ed and Janis Seale (my parents) were missionaries from 1979-2006 in the countries of Mexico, Romania, and Peru. During that time they were able to accomplish many things:
Two churches were started in Mexico--in Agua Prieta and Zacatecas...
A fledgling church in Romania almost quadrupled in size from 22 to 75 people...
Two churches were started in Tacna, Peru...
Orphans, gypsies, campers, youth groups, convicts, and street people were ministered to...
This is only a part of what they accomplished during their almost three decades on the mission field...
Now they are back in the US and in sad straits:
My dad's health is not strong...he's had four stints put into his heart...
My mom is still homeschooling my youngest brother and sister...
My Grandma Seale, who is in poor health, lives with them now...and they care for her...
Currently, they are also caring for my niece and nephew...who are 2 and 4...
All this in a house built over 80 years ago by my Grandpa Buckner:
A woodframe house not even on a real foundation...
The only bathroom is an unfinished one off of a porch...
Andrew's room is an enclosed porch...
Grandma's room is the old enclosed sleeping porch, that people have to go thru to get to the bathroom and my parents room...
My parents room is an old house attached to the back of the main house...with no insulation and leaks in the roof...
Josiah and Lydia will be sleeping in the dining room...
When Susanna returns from Taiwan, she will join Rebekah in the only REAL bedroom in the house...a small one off the front porch...
My parents are frugal people...they sold their other (60 year old) house to get completely out of debt...my dad works at Lowe's to pay for groceries and utilities...they really don't want to go into debt to get into a new house...and they aren't in any shape (physically or financially) to fix up the old house...they do have the land they are on free and clear...but no funds to build on it...
Anybody who is skilled at plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc...we can use your help. If you don't know how to do that, but you can paint, hammer nails, dig up dirt, serve cookies, ANYTHING...we can use your help too!!
My goal is to try and get everyone rallied together and have my folks house in decent shape before next winter hits!!
When I first brainstormed about starting this blog (as well as the Facebook group "A Home For The Seale Family") I was really thinking about seeing if another house could be built for them there on the land. It would still be AWESOME if something like that could be done, but I've realized that it could be very cost prohibitive...even if everyone helped out as much as they could.
However, there are so many things we can do to help them in small ways in their current house...and it would be much easier to rally folks for a weekend of camping and repairs than it would be to gather the funds and have the time to build a new house.
I'd like to see the whole house shored up and any leaks repaired. The bathroom desperately needs to be finished out and another bathroom added. Window panes need replacing, junk needs to be hauled away...there are so many "little" things that could be done that would make their lives so much easier!!
Won't you join me please in helping to get my parents, who have done so much for God in their ministries thru the years, to a point where they can live without the stress of repairing an 80 year old house? My family doesn't need much...they definitely aren't looking to be set up in a snazzy new house in the burbs...but one that isn't drafty and leaky would definitely be an improvement!!
If you would like to help in any way, please leave a comment below, join the Facebook group, or email me at sealefamilyhome@gmail.com. Thanks!!
